About Me

by Dawn

Hey there!  This is Dawn, founder and CEO (oooh, doesn’t that sound official?) of Crazy Organic Mama. If you’d like to contact me, please email me at [email protected]. I answer all my readers’ emails personally, and I’d love to hear from you!

Here’s me and my hubby (can you tell he just LOVES to have his picture taken? NOT!) But he’s a good guy who digs new garden beds for me whenever I ask, so I’ll keep him.

My credentials? Well, I am a mama, to children both human and furry.

Here’s my “baby”, Katelyn, with my mama.

One of my 5 furbabies, Taz, looking both innocent and photogenic (right before he eats my houseplants!)

If you ask my friends and family, they’ll tell you I’m a bit crazy.  As for the organic part, I’ve been gardening organically for 25 years, give or take a year or two.  The funny thing is, I didn’t start out organic because I knew what it was, I started out organic because I didn’t really know enough NOT to be and besides, I didn’t have the money for pesticides and chemicals.  So glad I was too poor and stupid for all that stuff then!  Having no knowledge of gardening and trying to do it organically can be rough, especially on the plants, and I killed quite a few in my time.  Good thing it’s not a crime, I’d be writing this from a cell.

Soooo, after much plant killing, reading of books and learning by experience, I decided to take my expertise to the next level and go back to college in 2014 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from the University of CT.  Best decision ever!  I learned a ton, had a blast and generally loved being a “mature” (I was 43 when I started) college student for 3 1/2 years.  In fact, I cried like a baby the day I took my last final (remember, I told you I was crazy!)  So, that’s a bit about me.

Why am I here?  To give you all kinds of awesome info so you don’t have to kill as many plants as I have over the years!  Whether you’re brand dandy new at this gardening stuff or you’ve been around the block a bit, I hope you enjoy what I have to say, and I’d love for you to share your failures and successes with me too.   After all, we’re on this crazy organic journey together.
