Or, A Brief Ode to World Naked Gardening Day
World Naked Gardening Day is celebrated the first Saturday in May,
Unless you’re in New Zealand, where fall is in May,
And WNGD is the end of October, it just works better that way.
A day dedicated to gardening in the nude,
It’s supposed to be fun, let’s not get rude.
Started way back in 2005,
It began as a day for nudists to thrive.
They claim naked gardening is second only to swimming,
As an activity people are willing to do in the buff.
I guess that could be true.
Although tree trimming or power tools might make it tough. (YIKES!)
A celebration started by two guys,
Who thought gardening naked would be wise.
A day to celebrate all things natural and free,
But, oh boy, watch out for that bee!
Pulling poison ivy is off the menu,
And we’ll have to be careful of our venue,
As public nudity can be frowned upon,
Celebrations probably should be confined to our own back lawn!
Pruning roses can be thorny,
And there’s always the danger of making the neighbors horny.
But just think of all that Vitamin D,
And the warm sunshine on my whoooooole body!
Oh the freedom, oh the joy,
Oh the sunburn, boy, oh boy!
Bee stings, mosquito bites, maybe this was dumb,
I’ve even got poison ivy on my bum!
Next year I think I’ll leave WNGD to the pros,
I’ll just keep gardening in my clothes,
Let’s leave the nudity to the plants and trees,
the birds and butterflies, animals and bees.
As you can plainly see, I’m so not a poet,
I’ve always suspected such, but now the whole world will know it!

Too cute! And WAYY too cold up here to even consider WNGD in early May. Thanks for the laugh!
You’re welcome!
That was really fun! A good idea if you have no neighbors! Very good poetry.
Hahahahaha, I think “very good poetry” might be pushing it a little, but glad you liked it.
Hi dear….😂
You’re cracking me up😂
Loved the little rhymes – it was so adorable❤️
My Lady (uh, it’s her b-day today) actually showed me this and was like “something for you, hunn?”
😳😳😳
Eerm, I’ll pass – the only garden I have is the urban one so… no.
Besides, considering how much of a messy head I can be, even if we had our own private garden… there are places I don’t want soil and grass straws to go!😂😂
In all fairness, she DOES know I would never ever do this, I don’t even go to public swims. She just likes teasing 😍
Anyway, thanks for bringing a smile to my old face.
Pinned it to my Pinterest because it might make others smile too.
Have a lovely weekend😘
Thank you! I’m glad it made you smile! No, I wouldn’t do it either, but it was fun to write about! Oh, and please wish her a happy birthday for me!!
I will😊❤️ Thx😊
Just way to funny.. Here in Montana it’s still to cold so will take a pass on this special day..
Yeah, I don’t want to scare any small children, so I’ll be remaining clothed as well. Plus, it’s only going to be in the 50s and cloudy tomorrow, so not really naked gardening weather!
That was great! I don’t know why, but I have this cousin who posts about WNGD onto MY Facebook page every. single. year. ????
🙂 gwingal
That’s funny! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
OMG, too funny Dawn! I live in Alaska, so will give to give WNGD a pass. Don’t even have my garden started outside by that date, not to mention I’d be giving up QUARTS of blood to the Alaska State Bird: The Mosquito 🦟. 🤣

I’ve heard they’re pretty vicious there! I have to be honest, I’m not going to be partaking anyway. It was just too funny to pass up, I HAD to write about it.
